Special Comment

I think like everyone else I've been focused on the coverage of Japan for the past few days.  Although heartbreaking and almost overwhelming at times I sit wishing that I could do anything to help.  The one thing that we all have in common is our desire to do what we can for those suffering after a natural disaster.

I've been dealing with a house restoration after my home flooded during the last ice storm here which at times has left me feeling overwhelmed these past few weeks.  Then this horrific event happened in Japan and it really put things into perspective for me.  Although I'm dealing with water damage it's NOTHING compared to having your home and every thing you own swept away, never to be seen again.  I don't have missing relatives, co-workers or friends. I'm not buried under rubble without food or water, hoping to be rescued.  I don't have a volcano erupting in my backyard or the risk of a nuclear reactor melting down anywhere in my vicinity.  I don't have to find the strength to climb onto my roof while waving a flag so that a rescue helicopter can find me.  As bad as all of these scenarios sound, they are real and occurring to our wonderful friends in Japan as I type this.

I noticed that I had a blog viewer from Japan just yesterday which brought a tear to my eye. Although I don't know who it was I wanted to shout out "Hi friend, I wish I could give you a big hug and I'm glad you're doing okay"!  This world really isn't that big and my heart is certainly large enough to have love and compassion for anyone suffering.

I've provided a link for the American Red Cross to place a donation for anyone who hasn't already donated or would like to.  Every little bit helps and they certainly do need help right now with donations.  Just click on the link HERE.

My thoughts are with you Japan.  Stay strong and Godspeed.

  1. Page, this is heartfelt and soul-searching perspective on the tragedy in Japan. We have to remember them, pray for them and help them. Wonderful idea to put the Red Cross link here for us. You stay strong, too.

  2. Oh Dear,
Page, your note is very touching and what happened in Japan certainly hurts the hearts of people around the globe, I may say that here in Egypt we're blessed to have neither floods nor earthquakes.
May I quote you again "Japan. Stay strong and Godspeed". and you too I hope you managed to pass the flood issue well.
    Thank you.

  6. LHC,
I agree and as the days progress the news just gets sadder. I hope they get a break soon and begin healing their shattered country.
