Summer Fun

I apologize for the delay in getting a new post up.  I've been spending a lot of spare time on landscaping the yard.  I'm working on a post featuring Gene Kelly so stay tuned.  In the meantime lets have another look at our favorite stars enjoying some summer activities.

Sal Mineo enjoying some beach time.

Robert Montgomery looking quit dapper on the court.

Lana Turner on the court in her signature floral ensemble

Audrey Hepburn enjoying some good music at home.

Betty Grable lounging around her pool.

Charles Boyer enjoying a game of table tennis.

Mitzi Gaynor having a grand time in her backyard.

Veronica Lake looking very comfy in a cactus bed. Be careful!

Patricia Ellis, beautiful on the beach.

Clark Gable and wife Carole Lombard enjoying a tennis match.

Jean Simmons and Stewart Granger. What a cute couple!

Stay tuned for Gene Kelly and a few posts I'm working on and stay cool out there.

  1. Page, these Hollywood star summer-fun pictures are delightful! Makes me wish our apartment complex's outdoor pool was open during weekdays (they won't open daily for the summer until all the kids are out of school)! :-)

  2. Robert Montgomery and Charles Boyer look absolutely gorgeous! (Oh, the ladies are OK too). Just to see those two makes it worth the wait for Gene Kelly. But don't take too long -- I love Kelly!

  3. Hi Page, Please don't apologize for not posting lately ... I'm having my own guilty feelings about my crazy busy schedule at the moment and lack of posts. LOVE the photos. The tennis player holding the rackets in the Gable/Lombard photo is, I believe, Alice Marble, a U.S. and Wimbledon tennis champion who was best friends with Lombard. To stay cool while playing, Marble would place a cabbage leaf in her hat, which absorbed the heat from her head. (I can't remember a phone number but somehow remember that tidbit from Marble's autobiography!)

  4. That's right, Classicfilmboy. In fact, Lombard sponsored Marble's career; Alice, like Carole, overcame obstacles to become prominent.

  5. Wonderful pics, as always. Veronica looked very different. Stewart Granger and Jean Simmons look so content in that shot. Too bad they divorced.

  6. Hi Becks,
I'm feeling better and back among the living and blogging even. I had to throw in some eye candy even though you were hoping for your boyfriend Errol.

    CFB and Vincent,
Thats interesting info! You guys always come through with such fun trivia on these old candids. Thanks for stopping by.

    Rick,
I have to admit that I didn't know that much about Jean and Stewart until doing research recently for blog posts etc. They made a striking couple though while it lasted. I got a good laugh at the Veronica pic with her trying to look serious among those huge cacti.

  8. Lobosco,
I appreciate it. I just saw your comment, I think it got lost in the shuffle during the Blogathon.

I enjoyed your great candids over Father's Day.
