Fabulous In Fur Is Back!

I know the majority of my readers are dealing with extremely cold weather right now so it's only appropriate that I take a quick detour from my Atlanta trip to break out the stars draped in their furs once again.

France Drake looks like a snow angel. Although gripping your head like a vice just makes me think being flawless is just too painful so I'll stick with mediocre.

I'm sure Lana Turner is off somewhere where it's warm so she can show off her white bikini and matching turban. Anything to escape the arctic temperatures in Beverly Hills.

Paulette Goddard is very protective of her fur wrap. Either that or she just spotted a very intoxicated John Barrymore with his hunting rifle.

This is Alice Terry doing sexy with fur and jewels. I think this proves that there is such a thing as too much shoulder and pasty skin.

Bebe Daniels is so proud of her fur that she's decided to ride along the running board to show it off. I'm guessing the suitcase is full of bandages and Neosporin ointment just in case there's a stray pothole.

Mary Carlisle looks ecstatic here. Maybe her date just canceled and that rug has to go back in front of the fireplace.

Carmel Myers adds a bit of fur for fashion. Of course this is Hollywood so she could also be recovering from a little nip-tuck. Things were so much easier back then. Throw a bit of fur around your neck and nobody suspects a thing.

If you're not familiar with Ann Sothern you might look at this glamor pose and think she's attempting sleepy. Nope! She always looks this way.

Irene Rich sets sail. Judging by the fur collar, cuffs and wrap she must be headed out to Catalina Island for the weekend.

When you're 4 foot tall and you can fit in Johnny Weismuller's pocket do you really need a fur, Lupe Velez? I would show up in a bathing suit and a smile while wrapping myself around that tall drink of water.

Vivien Leigh's fur jacket is a bit of a mystery. It looks like there are sleeves then a back to it. Perhaps she requires a bit of ventilation. Any gal hanging out with Oliver must get the vapors on a regular basis.

Joan Crawford is a pro when it comes to posing. Knowing regardless of how ridiculous you look, it's important to show off every detail of your custom made fur. That statuette was probably a gift from Doug Fairbanks Jr too. Her sly way of rubbing it in.

Martha Raye would learn the hard way that you don't testify in a high end fur and expect sympathy. Not when you need to get your roots done, girl!

Now that I've let the fur fly, I'll get back to my Oh so glamorous life of shoveling the sidewalk. Would anyone notice if I do so while wearing my great aunt's mink stole?

I hope you're all staying toasty warm and safe.
Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I love Joanie too. It's easy to rip on her but she was fabulous from the word Go. Can you imagine going through her closet at the height of her career? I would so wear most of her wardrobe and let everyone know that it belonged to the Worlds Most Fabulous Diva. ha ha
      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Hi, Jim!
Yes, I was just having a conversation about Mary on her Birthday. She seems to be overlooked a lot when classic film fans discuss how many classic stars we have left. A big fan of hers! I did a bio on her a couple of years ago which is in the archives.
Have a great weekend and thanks so much for taking the time to comment. : )

  3. I wonder how little Shirley Temple would look lik wearing fur...
The besty captions were about Paulette Goddard and Bebe Daniels. Great!
You should look fancy while shoveling...

    1. Hey, Kim!

    1. CW,
Since JW was 6'3 and Lupe was a tiny, 5'0 you would think she would wear a bit of a heel but when there is that much of a height disparity I guess there really isn't any point. ha ha

Her feet look tiny too. Like doll shoes. She should have gotten Mary Pickford and a few other shorties to start a 5'0 and under club.
I hope you're getting a bit of a reprieve with the weather up where you are.

  6. Too bad the big fur coats for men went out in the 20s. A big faux fur might be great right now - though I guess I would look out of place in Southern California.

    1. Hey, Christian!
Are ya cold? Snow and ice on the ground here with more on the way tonight and tomorrow. I have a vintage faux fur coat that I love but I'm never cold enough to wear it.
I have posted a few pics of the male stars in their furs like Flynn, Astaire, Gable and Valentino. I'll see if I can find another one for next time.

Always a pleasure to see you.

  7. Those of us who live in the arctic air here in NE PA really appreciate your fancy fur post (apologies to folks who nix fur, but remember, that was a different era. Poor Martha Rae, what an unbecoming picture of this funny lady!

On a more serious note, Page, farewell to Shirley Temple, charming actress from childhood to young womanhood to serving as a foreign ambassador, bless her. Ironically, when I heard the news of Shirley's passing, I must confess the first thing that leapt into my head was about you and your witty MY LOVE OF OLD HOLLYWOOD posts. I hope Shirley is smiling in Heaven with the world's greatest all-star cast!

    1. Very sweet, Dorian! I was quite saddened to hear the news of Shirley's passing. Kim even asked where Shirley was on this post a couple of days ago. I wish I had her co-host this one but I didn't. She certainly had a very long and rewarding life, doing so many charitable things. Her role in Hollywood as one of the first true childhood stars with her work ethic and talents.

I just got off of the phone with my mother and we had a very nice conversation reminiscing about her career.

I hope you and the family are getting a bit of a reprieve from this bitterly cold weather. I'm certainly looking forward to a warm up and a day of sunshine.
      All the best!

    2. Page, I couldn't agree more! Thanks for your kind comments joining me in our remembrance of sweet Shirley; you're a sugar bowl with 2 handles, as we say here at Team Bartilucci HQ! We hope your mom and family are managing well. I'm with you: I like a winter wonderland as much as anyone, but I'm looking forward to Spring -- I'm ready when Mother Nature is! In the meantime, remember your old pal Dor as we of Team Bartilucci HQ make makeshift tracks in the snow while we dig out our cars! :-D :-) Warmest wishes to you and yours from all of us here at Team B!

  10. Oh, I love all these beautiful, glamorous gals in their furs. I know it's not politically correct these days to say that one loves furs, but it's true. I absolutely love it. And just this winter I got my first-ever fur. My mother-in-law sent me a gorgeous cashmere coat, with a mink collar. She stumbled upon it at a thrift store, and it is in like-new condition. I feel like Bette Davis when I wear it.

Here in Southwest Idaho, we're not as cold as other parts of the country; however, when you hail from Florida (as I do), anything below 50 is frigid. So, it's been cold (for me), but we've hardly had any snow. Most of our precip has been rain, since the temps have been in the high 30's/low 40's. So no shoveling for me.

    1. Patti,
I would love to see your vintage fur. I have my great aunt's mink stole but it's just not fashionable to wear. I've thought about having it turned into a mink collar and cuffs for another coat. We're dealing with ice and snow right now which is not the best of weather but good for writing about our favorite stars in furs.
