I hope you'll all sign up for a little horsing around. It's another Blogathon!

After the success of the Dogathon recently, which was the clever creation of Rick over at the Classic Film  & TV Cafe, I thought it would be fun to do a Horseathon. There's been so many great films made that are either horse centric or revolve around our favorite western stars and their trusty sidekicks with hooves.

The Horseathon will be from May 25-27 but depending on how many sign on to do the Blogathon we can always extend the time in order to not have everything crammed in over 3 days.  We know from experience how difficult it is to read and comment on posts when there's at least 10 a day to get through.

I'm extending the invitation to anyone with a blog and if you've found yourself without a blog then contact me and perhaps you can guest post your entry here during the event. I'm more than happy to accommodate you so you don't miss out on the fun.

Even though most of the Blogathons center around classic films I won't be putting a specific time period on your choices so if you want to blog about War Horse then that's perfectly fine with me.  Write about anything you want to as long as there's a horse involved. (Yes, if your favorite film had a rocking horse as part of the plot then that's fine too! But if you have a thing for collecting paintings of horses on velvet then have yourself a garage sale then find a great film to write on.  Although we would love to see your collection.)

I hope everyone will find this topic interesting enough to sign up for it. Just shoot me a quick email at silentscreenfan@gmail.com if I'm not familiar with your blog or if you need more info, have any questions. Otherwise you can leave a comment here with the topic or film you would like to write on. (I have had a couple of bloggers claim their favorite film already so don't wait to sign on if you have a favorite.)

Below are the banners I've made up to display on your blogs so please take the one you like.  Even if you aren't participating I hope you'll let your readers know about the event.

If you need some inspiration here's a link to a large list of horse films beginning in 1940. LIST. Also, if you aren't yet sure about what you would like to write about there is no hurry or if you change your mind on a film the deadline isn't until May 10th.

Becky found another site that has a lot of great classic horse films that can be found HERE.

Thanks everyone and Giddy Up!

  10. Page, an excellent idea for a blogathon, but I can't think of a title at the moment. I considered "Wings of the Morning" immediately, but it isn't a very good film. Can you pencil me in and I'll get back to you with a title?

I still don't have a clue as to what film I'll be reviewing over here. When you said Wings of the Morning was a bad film I took notice. I'm trying to find a lousy film to review. (Thank goodness there are so many for snark!)

    3. Matt,
Right click over the banner you want to use then Save (should save to your download folder) If you're putting it on your sidebar use the Picture option and just locate it then add where it asks for attachment or image. You can add script up above in the empty box.

If that doesn't work email me and I can help you as needed! : )
      Thanks,

Since you also use blogger you'll go to the top right and choose 'Design' then 'Add Gadget' scroll down to 'picture'in the choice of Gadgets then you'll Add your saved image from Downloads (in this case the banner you saved) name it while saving so you can find it easily! : ) Picture is what I always use when uploading pictures or anything for my sidebar. You can also insert a blog link for quick access to whatever you're featuring.

Then don't forget to save at the bottom of the pop up box you're working in then SAVE before returning to your blog.

You've got plenty of time and keep in mind that the film doesn't have to have a horse as it's central focus. There are so many great films where the characters rode horses, used horses etc.

I know you'll find something great! Looking forward to your participation.

    2. A couple of suggestions:

The Return of October (Columbia, 1947)-A teenage girl's beloved uncle dies and is reincarnated as a racehorse! She ends up having to stand trial to prove her sanity, a la Miracle on 34th Street.

You Never Can Tell (Universal, 1951)-This is mainly about a murdered dog who pleads his case in "Animal Heaven" and is allowed to return to Earth as a man to solve his murder. But he's accompanied by a racehorse who takes the form of a woman to be his secretary. "Goldie" is a real scene-stealer, doing things like using a feedbag as a purse, and outrunning a bus!

      Delete
    3. Bobby,
Great examples! There are so many fun films that don't have a horse in the title or as the main character!

  32. Ooh, nice Horseathon! I confess I'm not a horse expert, and I bet the film I would've thought of, A DAY AT THE RACES, is already taken. Still, I'm game! Would ARABESQUE be acceptable, considering Ascot and a horseback chase are part of the action? I actually blogged about it sometime in 2010 or 2011, but I can freshen it up. Please let me know. If that's not acceptable, I'll be content with cheering the rest of you on, and writing comments to what will undoubtedly be awesome posts! :-)

  33. This sounds like a great idea for a blogathon but I'm having a hard time coming up with a good horror/scary movie involving a horse with the exception of one story - Sleepy Hollow. Now I know someone above already said they were doing Sleepy Hollow, which I assume they are talking about the 1999 Tim Burton version, so I was thinking I could do one of the many other versions of the same tale, like the 1949 Disney version, "Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad" or the 1922 silent movie "The Headless Horseman." What do you think?

    1. Bodhi,
